NID diary 2012: design & production

NID DIARY 2012
design & Production
A project with the National Institute of Design (NID)
Project guide: Tarun Deep Girdher

NID distributes an annual diary to its staff members and also sends it as a souvenir to professionals and deans of other institutes. I designed a planner suitable to the use of the various user groups at NID. The design got re-printed for the following years as well!

It has been a long journey full of interesting learning experiences. I have documented the process in the form of a blog, vidhushri.wordpress.com
Four sections, 3 shades of paper
Single colour, offset printing, wiro binding
Colour changes with change of semester
Typeface used: Myriad Pro
Play of hierarchy using weights
Experimenting with materials for cover
Family of Typeface used : Myriad Pro
I chose to use Myriad pro for this publication. I was considering  the digits of a typeface more closely as compared to the alphabets. I was looking at a typeface in which the numbers appear clear, distinct and appealing at a range of sizes. Moreover, Myriad pro is a typeface where the contrast between the various weights is clear and delivers a distinct hierarchy.
Working with the printing labs team
Hands on experience with every process
Exploring paper and material samples
Various dummy books in the process
Production details
Delivering on-time with the new year
Presenting the diary to the Director of NID. This diary undoubtedly had become my face for the year and keeps me alive at NID even after I have graduated as it has been reprinted for the next year as well!
